Certifications on a CV: how to make them useful
Certifications help when they clarify a requirement or show relevant learning. They hurt when they are vague, expired or listed without enough context.
What to include
- Exact certificate or licence name.
- Issuing body.
- Issue or expiry date when relevant.
- Credential ID or link only when safe and useful.
Where they belong
Put a mandatory licence near the top or beside the relevant role. Put supplementary courses in a separate section after experience and education.
Keep it factual
Do not call a short course a professional licence, and do not list training as completed until it is completed.
